How do I know if I need counselling?

A useful test is interference. If how you feel is affecting your sleep, work, appetite, relationships or your ability to enjoy things — and it has been going on for more than a couple of weeks — counselling will help. You do not need a diagnosis or a crisis to qualify.

What happens in the first session?

Ami builds an accurate picture: what brought you now, how long it has been going on, what you have tried, and relevant history. By the end you will have a shared understanding of the problem, a proposed approach, and usually one thing to try before the next session.

How many sessions will I need?

Focused concerns often resolve in 6 to 10 sessions. Depression, long-standing anxiety and couple work typically take 12 to 20. Complex trauma takes longer. Progress is reviewed openly and you are free to stop at any point.

Can I book a single session just to talk?

Yes. There is no minimum commitment and no package to buy. Many people start with one session and decide afterwards.

How long is a session?

60 minutes. Couple and family sessions are also 60 minutes; if a longer session would help, that can be arranged in advance.

Which languages can I have therapy in?

English, Hindi, Gujarati and Marathi, with free switching mid-session. Most Indian clients move between two languages naturally and that is entirely welcome.

Can my partner join a session?

Yes. Couple sessions are common. Partners can join from the same device or from separate locations using the same link.

Do you work with children and teenagers?

Yes. Work with younger children usually runs through the parents, while adolescents are typically seen directly with a parent involved at agreed points. See the child counselling page for details.

What if I cannot speak freely at home?

Use headphones, or take the session from a parked car or an empty meeting room. Tell Ami at the start; the session can be adapted, including using written chat where speaking aloud is not possible.

What are the counselling timings?

12:00 pm to 8:00 pm IST, seven days a week. Live availability is shown on the booking page.

How do I pay?

By Google Pay UPI. A QR code and unique reference are generated for your booking; you pay and enter the transaction reference. No card details are collected.

Can I reschedule?

Yes, free of charge up to 24 hours before your session, from the booking management page using the link in your confirmation email.

What is the refund policy?

Full refund if you cancel more than 24 hours before. 50% within 24 hours. No refund for no-shows. Refunds reach your UPI ID in 5 to 7 working days.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes. Notes are brief, clinical and stored securely, and nothing is shared without your written consent. The exceptions are serious immediate risk to life, a child at risk, or a legal requirement.

Will my family find out I am in therapy?

Not from Ami. Emails and messages can be kept minimal on request, and you can ask for confirmations to go only to a specific channel.

Can Ami prescribe medication?

Accepted Answer

No — psychologists do not prescribe. Where medication may help, Ami will discuss it and suggest a psychiatrist consultation, then continue therapy alongside.
