Certified & Experienced Counselling Psychologist

About Ami Thaker

A psychologist whose work is built around one belief: people do not need to be fixed, they need to be understood accurately and given tools that actually fit their lives.

In short

Ami Thaker is a Certified & Experienced Counselling Psychologist offering online counselling for anxiety, depression, marriage and relationship issues, trauma, infertility and perinatal mental health, and child and adolescent concerns. She practises in English, Hindi, Gujarati and Marathi through Google Meet.

Ami trained in counselling psychology and has spent her career working with the full range of what people bring to a therapy room — the panic attack before a presentation, the marriage that has gone quiet, the grief after a failed IVF cycle, the ten-year-old who has stopped wanting to go to school, the man who has not slept properly since an accident three years ago.

What connects that range is method. Ami works from evidence-based frameworks — principally Cognitive Behavioural Therapy — and adapts them rather than applying them generically. A CBT protocol designed for a nuclear family in Manchester needs adjusting before it will work for a twenty-nine-year-old living with her in-laws in Mumbai. That adjustment is most of the skill.

She moved her practice online because it works. Clients who would have missed every third session because of traffic, travel or childcare attend consistently, and consistency is what produces change. It also means she can work with clients in smaller cities and abroad, where finding a therapist who speaks Gujarati or Marathi is close to impossible.

Ami sees individuals, couples, parents seeking guidance about their children, and adolescents. Sessions are unhurried, direct and free of jargon. If something is not working, she will say so and change the approach rather than letting therapy drift.

How Ami works

Four things you can rely on

You set the agenda

Therapy is not a lecture. You decide what matters most in a session; Ami brings structure, questions and evidence-based tools to work on it.

Practical over abstract

Insight is useful only when it changes something. Sessions usually end with something specific to notice, try or practise before the next one.

Culturally grounded

Indian families, marriages and expectations are not a footnote — they are usually the context. You will not have to explain them from scratch.

Honest about fit

If a different specialist, a psychiatrist or an in-person service would serve you better, Ami will say so and help you find it.
