60-minutes Google Meet Session
Post-Partum Counselling
You are allowed to find this hard. It does not make you a bad mother.
In short
Postpartum counselling supports new mothers through depression, anxiety, birth trauma, rage and overwhelm in the year after childbirth. Ami Thaker offers 60-minute online sessions that you can attend from home, including with your baby present.
Signs of postpartum difficulty
You do not need every one of these, and you do not need to be in crisis to start. If two or three feel familiar, counselling is likely to help.
- Persistent depression, tearfulness or emptiness beyond the first two weeks
- Intense anxiety about the baby's breathing, feeding, weight or safety
- Intrusive frightening thoughts about harm coming to the baby
- Feeling detached from your baby, or waiting for a bond that has not arrived
- Rage or irritability that feels out of proportion and out of character
- Guilt, shame and a conviction that you are failing
- Inability to sleep even when the baby is asleep
- Flashbacks or distress about the delivery
- Thoughts of harming yourself or of your family being better off without you (seek help urgently)
